Ed is the CEO of Smith-Craine Real Estate Financing, a San Francisco mortgage company. During his 25 years in business, Ed has helped several thousand people get loans, invest in real estate, and learn about the industry. Ed and his company have received wide recognition and won many awards for excellence thru the years. Most recently, Smith-Craine was recognized as one of “The Ten Most Dependable Mortgage Brokers of the United States” in Forbes Magazine (April 13, 2009). Ed is frequently quoted and has written books and articles on real estate lending and investing. He is also a speaker and instructor on various real estate finance and investing topics. He has appeared before industry groups, college classes, Lorman Seminars, The Learning Annex, and the Learning Exchange.
Ed is also actively involved with the California Association of Mortgage Brokers. He has been the President of the San Francisco Peninsula Chapter, a state board member, state Vice President, and PR Chair and is currently serving as the State Treasurer.
In addition to the above, Ed is also a past President of the Northern California Chapter of CCIM, the world’s leading commercial real estate trade association. He has also served both on the CCIM Institute National Board of Directors for 2008-2009 and is as the Regional Vice President for CCIM Region 2 from 2007-2009.
During his 30 year career, Ed has been a real estate and mortgage broker on over $2 billion dollars of residential and commercial property.
Ed has authored numerous articles and has been quoted in print media across the country including the Wall Street Journal, the LA Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle. He has also been interviewed by major TV and radio stations in the Los Angeles and San Francisco markets.
Ed is firmly committed to the idea that a well educated public will make better borrowing and real estate investment decisions. His goal is to help clients create financial wealth thru better management of their real estate loans and equity. Along the way, he also hopes that they will increase their knowledge and intellectual capital and achieve their life goals.
Ed is a graduate from Cornell University College of Arts & Sciences as a history major in 1973 and received his MBA from Cornell’s Johnson School in 1975.
When Ed isn’t working or writing, he loves to spend time with his family, read, travel, and keep fit so he can eat great food and drink great wine!
